 Calligramme for My Future Self

Artist Statement

    I created the calligramme above using Adobe Illustrator. I made a self reflective image out of a letter, the letter was addressed to myself 20 years in the future, I will place copy of this letter on this blog post, alongside my sketch I used to prepare for the calligramme. In the letter I talked about personal issues, aspiration, along with other things. In the letter I discussed my creative side, and I how. I enjoy speaking with people, which inspired my image choice for the image I chose, which was someone speaking into a microphone. The image has an abstract style. I utilized illustrator's various tools to create the image from words. I entered lines from the letter onto illustrator using text tool, and I placed them next to shapes using the shapes tool, I made them into separate layers and merged them together using envelope distort. I used ovals for the eyes,reactange for appearance of glasses, a triangle for the nose, an stretched hexagon for the mouth, and a stretched pentagon for the microphone. After using this for a name I typed out lines of text to use as lines for further definition in the Image. I was inspired by my classmates creations, as there calligrammes told you about there traits. In addition I was inspired by shots of people giving speeches, which I will attach below. This process was enjoyable as it required me to think about my future, and who I am, and what I enjoy. 










Dear my future self, 

If this letter has reached you then you made it 20 years, and Microsoft word still exists. I cannot see you, but I bet you look great my friend.  

At the time I am writing this I am a first-year student in college, and this is certainly a time of uncertainty.  

I wonder how you are looking back on your college days, hopefully with a smile on your face, I am going to try not to screw it up for us.  

I have only been here a couple of weeks, and I like it so far, we are still working on making some friends, I bet we will make some more soon. I miss home,  

make sure you tell Ant and Soph and the rest of the family I said hi.  

 Now let us get down to business because that is what I am studying right now. As you know, I like creative stuff, and I like working with people, so I hope to do that for a future career. You better be working somewhere that makes you happy, life is short! I assume you would have perfect advice to give me, but my advice to you would be to remind yourself every day of what you are grateful for.  For some fun side stuff, I have been very into American history and politics recently. My favorite shows are Breaking Bad, Curb Your Enthusiasm, and Avatar TLA. I hope reading this brough a smile to your face, it is for Digital Media Class, which so far seems cool! My favorite food is steak, my favorite movie is Shawshank Redemption, and my favorite band is the Beatles. I enjoy talking to and working with others more than anything and enjoy various forms of speaking. I leave you with a great quote from my favorite movie: “Fear can set you prisoner; hope can set you free” Best of luck to you, or should I say, us.

I was originally going to do an image from a movie, but recently I had the opportunity to take a tour of the Whitehouse, so I wanted to an use an image from that experience. Portfolio, Final Blog

 Portfolio 4/25/2024 - Luke Bettano       The pages below make up my portfolio for my 10 projects that I felt best represented my experience in FMX this semester. This was my last project and will be my last blog post. My portfolio served as a way to represent my best works, and was made using Adobe InDesign. The color palettes was analogous, and made using light blue and dark blue, with white as an important color too. The pages were white because that best complimented the work, and blue is my favorite color, and matched some of my works. I used Futura for the headings, gotu for the body, and minions pro for the page numbers. I made a cover and a back page. I started with stable of contents, and about me section, where I introduced myself and my work. I had one project on each page, except the logo and tag brush were on one page. It starts by showing the menu and file information, which work similar to illustrator. After explaining the basics that mostly overlapped with illustrator, he introduced a couple of the important tools. The tools he introduced were the move, selection, lasso, quick selection, crop, frame, eyedropper, spot healing, paintbrush, clone stamp, gradient, dodge, pen, text, path selection, hand, and zoom tool, as well as other tools. These tools were all useful in different ways, it so interesting how many tools photoshop has, and how a lot of them are easy to understand, and useful.
