InDesign Tutorials

 InDesign Tutorials

April 3rd - Luke Bettano

The video above serves as a basic introduction of what indesign is used for and what differs it from the other softwares. It shows how this software is more used for projects that contain a lot of text, and there are a lot of new text based features that can be used here. I enjoy art pieces that feature text so I was pleased to see that, they have an extra element of creativity, and I am better at writing than I am with art generally. It started by showing how to use margins to create good spacing whee you can put logos and more, showing how InDesign can be used for a lot of real world things. It outlined how to use layers, these layers are more like illustrator than photoshop, but have their own features. The tutorial also displayed different ways to place images, and text, using the tools of the platform, in a useful way.

The video above was more advanced than the previous tutorial, it was less introductory and more about ways to use the features most optimally. The video contained useful and important tips, some of the tips related to tools I do not know how to use yet, so It wasn't entirely useful, however it introduced those tools, and provided plenty of Information about tools that I have some experience with, and showed how those tools differ from their photoshop or illustrator counterpart. Some of the tips provided me with new ideas that I expect to use easily. Some techniques it introduced were Data Merge, Effects, Frames and more. This tutorial reviewed some of the things in the previous video, such as markings, which seem to be a very important part of this software.

The video above focuses on the area of design that I do not have a lot of experience, which Is the composition element. This entails how to make the layout look perfectly, which I assume is harder than it looks. The video shows alignment, negative space, margins (again), head lining, Hierarchy, Contrast, and many other important elements. I think I may struggle with alignment because it involves getting to be the right size, and hierarchy, I have experience with more basic softwares doing this, however this is far more complex, and these elements are important to know. The videos applies these elements to producing a magazine, and it showed the full continuous process of creating something like that, which was interesting. I enjoyed learning all the elects that go into things like that.
