Portfolio, Final Blog

Image
Portfolio 4/25/2024 - Luke Bettano       The pages below make up my portfolio for my 10 projects that I felt best represented my experience in FMX this semester. This was my last project and will be my last blog post. My portfolio served as a way to represent my best works, and was made using Adobe InDesign. The color palettes was analogous, and made using light blue and dark blue, with white as an important color too. The pages were white because that best complimented the work, and blue is my favorite color, and matched some of my works. I used Futura for the headings, gotu for the body, and minions pro for the page numbers. I made a cover and a back page. I started with stable of contents, and about me section, where I introduced myself and my work. I had one project on each page, except the logo and tag brush were on one page. I used light blue for the headings and page numbers, and dark blue for the body text. I believe they blended together nicely. All of...

Business Cards

Business Cards March 14th 2024 - Luke Bettano      The business cards below were designed using indesign. It was difficult to apply features while keeping it as simple as possible, but I tried to find a happy medium. The cards were based on my fathers business cards, which have a white background and the logo on the back, and not a lot going on. I used the colors in the logo to keep cohesion. The designs were derived from my sketches, which are attached below the cards. My favorite card is the top one, because it is the most basic and would be the most practical to use. I used a text tool to show my information, I used fake info for obvious reasons, I chose the fonts that I think would look good. I also used shape tool, to add a background element. Having a good sense of what makes business cards effective is important to know for future careers. Sketches

Postcard

Postcard March 24th 2024 - Luke  Bettano     The postcard above was my first creation using Adobe InDesign, and I am happy with how it came out. I always enjoy seeing postcards in stores and it was enjoyable to design my own. It is eclipse themed, so I chose Austin Texas because the eclipse was apparent there. I wanted the represent the idea of an eclipse, and the identity of Texas. I had a cowboy riding in a darkening sky, which unfortunately is not scientifically accurate but it looked beautiful, so I still chose it. The sun in the back is darkened but high in the sky, giving a sunset eclipse effect. I chose the word howdy because it is considered unique to Texas or the south, and I chose the font because it had an organic old fashioned appeal, I kept the font of the city to be more basic. The back of the card was chosen, because it has a brownish color, with a less modern font, matching the aesthetic of the card, which is intentiona...

Animation

Animation April 1st - Luke Bettano      The Gif above was produced using animation in photoshop. This project seemed very daunting at first, because of the amount of frames, and amount we had to keep track of. I struggled to use the features and made mistakes when adding layers and had to go back and fix them. After trial and error, and applying the lessons from class, I was able to make an animation. I knew I wanted to something representing balance, so I told a story about two opposites coming together, the moon and the sun. I attached some existing similar gifs  found, but I wanted to make mine different to them. The animation depicts the sun and moon in the usual positions, about to set and rise again, but the this time they start dancing and playing around. They chase each other, mimic each other, bounce each other, and more. I found 2 good vectors for the sun and the moon, and they are attached below, I put them over a nice sunset background because that...

InDesign Tutorials

InDesign Tutorials April 3rd - Luke Bettano https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wF_fu1wcT0Y      The video above serves as a basic introduction of what indesign is used for and what differs it from the other softwares. It shows how this software is more used for projects that contain a lot of text, and there are a lot of new text based features that can be used here. I enjoy art pieces that feature text so I was pleased to see that, they have an extra element of creativity, and I am better at writing than I am with art generally. It started by showing how to use margins to create good spacing whee you can put logos and more, showing how InDesign can be used for a lot of real world things. It outlined how to use layers, these layers are more like illustrator than photoshop, but have their own features. The tutorial also displayed different ways to place images, and text, using the tools of the platform, in a useful way. https://youtu.be/P7MIKi663ok?feature=shared  ...
