Children look out from the balcony of Maison Dorcas

The image above Is from a collection of images called the people's portfolio, which portrays social issues using photography. This image is in the collection related to Sexual Violence in Congo. As can be seen, the image shows 2 African children behind bars. I am not sure the exact location that the image was taken, but it certainly exposes some of the horror that exists in the world. The children are trapped, and appear to be suffering. These image shows how some people are trapped by the world they were born into. The children are likely victims of sexual violence, which is truly devastating. This is an issue that more attention needs to be brought to as it harms so many lives, as depicted in the image.

The image connected to me because it depicts hardship and struggle, but primarily the feeling of entrapment. I can not imagine what these children or going through, and what many people in Congo are feeling. People I love and care about have experienced sexual abuse, and it is an issue that stays with them long after the event. Hardships in my life have left me feeling trapped long after the event as well. The photographer did a powerful job conveying these feelings, and I feel empathy towards those who are facing the issue that the image is depicting, which means the artist achieved its goal. These feelings forge a connection between me and the world, which is something powerful that photography and art can do.

The image above, is me and my friends in Central Park, located in New York City. The image is visually stunning, in my opinion, but the memories tied to it are what make it important to me. This is one of many advnetures I went on with my friends, and we have just as much fun together in a beautiful location, like in the image, as we do hanging out in one of our basements. Me and my friends love nature, as well as architecture. The image above shows us connecting to both natural, and man made beauties, as both exist in this world. Central Park is man made, however it is made up of real natural elements that are found across the country, much like how people across New York City come from so many different places and make one human ecosystem.

I am always trying to understand what is going on In this massive world, which is massive and towers over, like in the image. It helps me to have people by my side, like the people in the image. It is important for us to connect to the world around us, and find time to connect to nature. Central Park is an area of nature completely surrounded by man made structures and technology, and it serves as the heart of the city. They added it to the city because it is so important for us to have nature nearby, it is a human necessity. I am always happy to feel nature, especially with my friends.
