Internet - WWW -WiFi - Bluetooth
Luke Bettano - Jan 26 2024
The internet is a global interconnected network of electronic devices. The internet contains an incomprehensibly massive amount of information that can be accessed from incompressible amount of devices. The earliest form of the internet came about in the 60s as a prototype funded by the United States department of defense, to serve as a communication database to be used by the military. This was developed into the massive communication system between almost all devices in 1983 by computer scientists Bob Kahn and Vint Kerf. All of the devices that make up the internet are connected via radio waves, wires, satellites, and materialize in data.
The World Wide Web is a collection of information that exists from the communication that is the internet. The World Wide Web is this information being globally accessible through devices that can view this information on websites. Tim Berners-Lee, who worked for CERN, a scientific research organization, invented the World Wide Web, it was originally created for scientific organizations, educational institutions, and other organization that frequents need to access information to use to to distribute information, making intellectual thought far more powerful across our country. Since then, the Web has been accessed by more and more organizations and even to individual people for personal use.
The World Wide Exists inside of and from the technology that is the internet. The internet is the connection of electronic devices, where as the WWW is a public library of information that used the internets technology to function and display the information that makes up the World Wide Web. They do not work entirely together or separate, as the internet can function without the WWW, however the WWW can not function without the internet. Both are extremely prominent factors of how our society functions.
The first ever website is still up today. It serves a platform to inform about what the World Wide Web is, and present different pieces of information about the WWW itself. The same scientist and organization who created the WWW, created the first Website. Tim Berners-Lee created the first website, which is controlled and owned by CERN. It serves today as a historical item, as it still appears similar to it did it its conception and it does not contain visual art, and is simplistic. It also serves as a great source of information to educate oneself on the WWW, which is what it was created to do. The URL for the website is: http://info.cern.ch/hypertext/WWW/TheProject.html
Hedy Lamarr was a famous movie actress in the 40s, but she also was an inventor. She invented something called frequency hopping. Frequency hopping was a method of transmitting radio signals, to many different devices at once because it prevented the waves from interfering with each other. This served as the precursor for WiFi and Bluetooth, because it is used to connect devices to routers and other devices allowing WiFi and Bluetooth connections to function, meaning without Hedy Lamarr we would be far less advanced technologically. She even has a song about her made by the famous movie star Johny Depp called "This is a song for Miss Hedy Lamarr" Johnny Depp made this song to celebrate her legacy because she hasn't been given the recognition she deserves, as she is a very influential person.
Bluetooth was invented in 1994, in the Netherlands by an Engineer named Jaap Haartsen, who worked in the mobile phone department at the company. He developed a way to connect devices using waves instead of wires, by using short term radio frequencies that do not interfere with each other, they are weaker waves than those used in other wave based connections. Bluetooth is named after the Scandanavian King, Harald Bluetooth, who united multiple tribes into a single kingdom. Bluetooth serves as a uniter of multiple different devices into one network. The bluetooth logo is a combination of his initials, symbolizing it as an advancer of society.
WiFi as devleloped by from Hedy Lamarr's frequency hopping technology in 1997 by many different people working at NCR Corp. and AT&T. It was intended for cashier systems but was eventually used for business and even homes to use for device connection. Vic Hayes oversaw the project over the 90s. It was originally called Wave LAN, but was eventually called Wirless Fidelity, abbreviated to WiFi. WiFi, as the well other technological advancements where very interesting to learn about and research, especially considering I use these things constantly. It is very important to understand the world we live in, in which technology plays such an important role in.
